Our Story

A Small Workshop With a Big Story

Two Whales Trading Company began long before we ever stitched a wallet or carved a stamp. It started on the water—quiet, still, and wide as the sky above it. Each time we found ourselves out on a small boat, we were met with the same unexpected luck: whales rising through the surface as if the sea wanted to share something rare with us. Different whales on different days, each encounter brief but extraordinary. They moved slowly, unhurried, as though time bent around them. And somewhere in those moments something stayed with us. A feeling. A reminder. A spark.

We carried that feeling home, back to our inland lives and our little workshop far from any coastline. But the memory stayed. It became a compass of sorts, pointing us toward a way of working and living we hadn’t named yet: to make things slowly, intentionally, and together.

So, we built a trading company around that feeling. A place where handcrafted goods, workshop services, and curious creations all live under one roof. A place where leather smells like old stories, brass shavings glint like treasure, and every new project feels like a small adventure waiting to surface.

We’re a mother-and-son team, working side by side at the same bench cutting, tooling, stitching, engraving, carving, embroidering. From leatherwork to custom CNC, stamping, engraving, and embroidery, each piece moves through our hands with the same quiet care we felt on those boats. Nothing rushed. Nothing mass-produced. Just honest craft shaped by two people who love making things together.

This little inland workshop is where we bring our curios to life.  Everyday wares, practical pieces, seasonal gifts, oddments, and the occasional experiment that earns its place on the shelf. It may not be the ocean, but its memory is here in every corner: in the curve of a stitched strap, in the weight of a brass stamp, in the carved lines of a wooden charm.

Two Whales is more than a name to us. It’s a reminder of those rare, fortunate encounters and the way they quietly shaped who we are. Two makers charting our own course, steady as a pair of whales moving through open water. And we’re grateful you found your way here. Come wander awhile. There’s always something new surfacing on our shelves.
